Bluebird Moments at Trellis: A Symbol of Place, Passion & Community

This week, something truly special happened on our patio—a Western Bluebird perched atop one of the newly installed bluebird houses overlooking our garden. It may sound like a simple moment, but to us at Trellis, it was powerful and deeply symbolic. The Western Bluebird is more than just part of our logo—it represents our roots, our love of the Willamette Valley, and our commitment to living in harmony with this incredible place. Trellis was born out of a passion for food, wine, nature, and community, and this small visitor reminded us that we’re right where we’re meant to be.

If you’ve dined with us before, you’ve likely experienced our local-first philosophy—from seasonal dishes garnished with just-picked herbs and flowers to wines that tell the story of our region. What you may not know is that our very own Chef Joe is a devoted birder. His appreciation for birdlife is the quiet inspiration behind the bluebird in our logo. Earlier this spring, while planting around the patio, a kind guest named Karen noticed our efforts and offered a beautiful gift—two handcrafted bluebird houses. Just weeks later, to our delight, a Western Bluebird came to visit. It was one of those rare, full-circle moments that filled us with gratitude.

Birdwatching in the Dundee Hills is more than a peaceful pastime—it’s a meaningful way to connect with the valley. The area around Trellis is home to a rich variety of native birds, including the charming and increasingly rare Western Bluebird. Along local trails and vineyards, you may notice small wooden bluebird boxes—part of a conservation effort led by the Prescott Bluebird Recovery Project. Their mission to restore and protect the Western Bluebird population has created a ripple effect across the valley (see video of bluebird brood at Sokol Blosser Vineyard), encouraging residents, wineries, and nature lovers to play a part in welcoming these vibrant birds back home.

We hope you’ll join us at Trellis soon to enjoy the patio—maybe even spot a bluebird of your own. Savor new seasonal dishes (view menu), relax with a glass of wine, and let the beauty of the valley surround you. Better yet, turn your visit into a getaway: stay at a cozy AirB&B or The Dundee Hotel, hike the local trails, or sign up for a Winemaker-Guided Vineyard Hike at Knudsen Vineyards. You’ll discover more than just stunning views and wildflowers—you may catch a glimpse of a bluebird in the vines, too.

And if you're planning something special, let us host it or bring a taste of the Valley to your event. We love catering (both on-site and off-site)and our patio and indoor diningroom are available for partial and full bookouts for private events and celebrations of all kinds. At Trellis, we believe that the best experiences are shared—and like the bluebird, they leave a lasting impression. Reserve your table, explore the valley, and come be part of something beautiful.

When evening arrives, you’ll be spoiled for dinner choices. From the regionally inspired farm-to-table menu at Trellis to the cozy charm of Tina’s or wood-fired fare at Red Hills Market, every bite tells a story of Oregon’s bounty. Enjoy pairing your meal with world-world class wines from Dundee Hills and surrounding AVAs and make a night of it by staying at one of the local Airbnbs or the luxurious Dundee Hotel.
